Where to See Cherry Blossoms in Halifax: 5 Best Spots

Wondering where to see cherry blossoms in Halifax?
Here’s the top 5 spots to see these pretty trees in bloom, plus a few other places where you can get a glimpse of these spring blossoms.

Spring in Halifax is a beautiful time of year. The days grow warmer, flowers begin to bloom and the trees start to show their colourful blossoms.

Personally, I love spring blooms and get excited to see the first daffodils and magnolia trees bloom, but cherry blossoms are my favourite.

When we first moved to Nova Scotia, I was eager to see the cherry blossoms but I couldn’t find much information on where to see them. They’re not as plentiful here as in other areas of the country, but luckily there are a few spots where you can experience the cherry blossoms in Halifax.

Here’s the top spots in Halifax to see cherry blossoms in full glory. But remember, these blossoms don’t last too long, usually less than a week, so get out there and enjoy the view!

5 Best Spots to See Cherry Blossoms in Halifax

1. Park Avenue, Dartmouth

The absolute best spot to experience the cherry blossoms is on Park Avenue in Dartmouth. This otherwise quiet street comes alive in May when the cherry trees are in full bloom.

Cherry trees line the entire length of the street, creating a gorgeous canopy of pink and white blossoms. Walk under the canopy or stroll along the street and take in the beautiful springtime blooms.

Park Avenue is adjacent to Leighton Dillman Park and there are some grassy spots just inside the gate which are perfect for having a picnic while taking in the cherry blossoms.

2. Dartmouth Commons

Another great spot to see the cherry blossoms is at the Dartmouth Commons skatepark. A few cherry trees around the skatepark add a splash of pink and white to the green space, making a striking contrast to the urban backdrop.

Although there’s not nearly the same amount of cherry trees here as on Park Avenue, it’s still a great spot to visit, especially since it’s close by.

3. Halifax Public Gardens

As you might expect, the Halifax Public Gardens is another great spot to see the cherry blossoms.

This historic garden, while open all year round, really comes alive in the spring with many different types of blooms.

In addition to the tulips and magnolia trees, there are also a few cherry trees throughout the park.

Stroll along the garden’s paths and as you near the willow tree, you’ll see one of the cherry trees, while the other is on the other side of the park, near the upper bridge.

4. Halifax Common

The Halifax Common is another great spot to see cherry blossoms.

On the North Common near Cunard and North Park St, there are three cherry trees, which stand out beautifully against the open space of the commons.

There’s plenty of green space here, so bring a blanket and enjoy a picnic lunch or enjoy the blossoms while sitting on one of the benches by the cherry trees.

The Commons is also a great spot to go for a walk, or rollerblade or bike around the Oval, which is also open year-round.

5. Pleasant Street, Dartmouth

A bit of a hidden gem, but just as pretty, are the cherry trees on Pleasant Street in Dartmouth.

Lining a stretch of the street between Dartmouth General Hospital and John’s Lunch (which unfortunately is now closed), these cherry trees add a pop of spring colour to the busy area.

Parking is trickier here, as it’s a busy street, but there are some side streets to park on, or there’s parking lots at Woodside Ferry Terminal and across the road where Value Village is located.
